german producer christian burkhardt teams up with fellow countrymen chris wood & meat for a three-track release on jamie jones hottrax this may. burkhardt has been flying the flag for minimalist electronic music for a decade now, releasing on labels such as cocoon, oslo and pressure traxx. likewise, freebase records founders meat + chris wood have been purveying deep and minimal cuts individually since the ‘00s, joining forces in 2009 before releasing on labels like desolat, housewax and tiefschwarz souvenir. between the three of them theyve continually garnered support from the upper echelons of house and techno, making regular appearances in the sets of names like ricardo villalobos, sven väth, seth troxler and jamie jones. intricate percussion and a compelling bassline make up the foundation of closer 2 u as an echoing vocal and tense strings operate throughout. meanwhile, plain is a more downtempo cut in comparison with its dusky atmospherics and distorted spoken word samples that subtly permeate throughout the mix. on the flip, trumpad is deep and dubby whilst integrating trippy synths and mesmerizing effects for a rhythmic conclusion.

italian producer alfredo mazzilli presents us with logical strength, his second ep on weekend circuit. across 4 tracks he expresses his own unique take on the deepest strains of techno and it s outer reaches. ep opener logical strength is a throbbing piece of driving, menacing wormhole music with heavy arpeggiated sounds and rock solid, incessant drum-programming, leaving nothing standing in it s wake it is a firm statement of intent. nuvole sees the pace change slightly, adopting more of an eerie, borderline hallucinatory feel. the track unfolds beautifully with heavenly pads and synth swells draped across some tribally infused drums. on side 2 we have a stellar remix of nuvole from eminent swedish producer evigt mörker who travels a more subdued, sedate path with his interpretation. finishing off this 4 track excursion we are drawn into the beatless, introspective terrain of parhelion . a beautifully nuanced and subtle way to close things. washes of synth and atmosphere embrace us as we travel onwards, deeper into the night. alfredo mazzilli shows us once again his own individual and unique style on this ep, another essential chapter in the weekend circuit story.

ivanlatyshev is a record producer and dj with more than 10-years experience, having grown up in russias cultural epicentre of st petersburg. developing a love for deep house, the young producer has been releasing his perfectly-realised club tunes on labels such as toolroom, and now provides us with a second outing on dessous recordings. the art of flying ep presents two original tracks and a pair of remixes of the lead cut. the original art of flying is quite a statement a jazzy, swingy beat introduces the track, before solidifying around punchy 4/4 groove. restless synths drift in and out resulting in a track that is both exceptionally funky and deeply wonky - topped off with a killer spoken word vocal. the ever-dependable eddie fowlkes steps up on remix duties and supplies a more jacking interpretation, adding a filthy bassline on his fly mix. the same track also gets a crazy dub rework which expands the space within the track and strips it down for maximum club effect.

london-based producer and dj tarquin has returned to gobstopper. “grease (chord mix)” is a high tempo example of the genre’s more experimental side, using fragmented percussive samples set to a background of pitch-bent chord stabs and twisted melodic elements.

this is joels second appearance on kanzleramt after his very much loved solo 12inch reminder in 2006. its also not the first release of the two, as last years drumcode limited release slight munch shows. joel and heiko have been friends for over a decade. the depth of that connection is reflected in rooter as much of this release was designed and realised right at the kitchen table over breakfast or with a good wine while cooking dinner. more parts of those sessions will be following on parabel later this year.

following on from the very robust debut of his own label failsafe, juxta position deviates back to the more melancholic aesthetic with which he initially made his mark back in 2013 on mistress recordings. drawing palpable influence from ambient electronica like boards of canada, he then reframes the aesthetic, with the help of rhythmic anchoring, on the 12 minute opening opus eureka. however, not to disappoint lovers of the slightly harder, more uptempo, electronic beat, the flip then dishes up two significantly more pressurised techno pieces, the former made in belgrade more linear, the latter reimagined more flamboyant.

loco dices desolat label welcomes uk artist waff for its next ep, a meaty four tracker by the name of hanzz sup. in recent times, waff has really established himself as one of the beacons of main room house and techno around the world. from standout sets at key ibiza clubs to gigs at fabric, london via big underground hits on labels like drumcode, cocoon and hot creations, he is a real man of the moment. the title track opens the ep in fine style with hulking great big kicks reverberating down low as wonky tones and scattered percussion add more heat. barreling along and taking no prisoners, it is a hugely physical drum track with spoken word mutterings piling on the pressure. making just as big an impression but in less direct ways, the shuffling and bubbling karimba is a skittish, busy affair with tribal drums and vocal chants all layered up into something that is sure to become anthemic in ibiza this summer. on the flip side hypnotised works on getting into your brain with tight, scurrying drum and percussive patterns that never let up. its a dense, busy arrangement that makes for a high octane ride. last of all inception takes on more of a house feel, with well swung, low slung drums bringing the groove as hammering hits and frosty synth lines keep busy up top. this is house and techno that makes a big impact from one of the most on point producers out there right now.

it might not always be obvious, but music as escapism can serve as a radical social statement. what some may see as daydreaming or imagination of impossible realities, can constitute a sort of revolution of thought, the seed of a more human and sentient worldview. although on a first listen, high-level basis, it may seem as if the music contained in informa’s 10th release is a series of psychedelic, dystopian and otherworldly tools for escape, it might actually be a proposition for improvement, a route to self-discovery, a reflection on the true nature of our surroundings. although at no point in this release such high concepts are made explicit, there is a consistency in vision and methods present in the art created by the peers that label founder and owner deepbass has selected for this very special, celebratory release. encapsulating the product of eight minds, eight visions, in a common concept for evolution in unity.

one of electronic music’s greats steps back into the limelight with his first ep in more than 10 years. erik van den broek, the dutch producer who is probably better known under some of his pseudonyms such as shiver, essit musique and acid kid dominated the 90’s with a slew of brilliant acid and electro releases on dance arena productions and shiver. erik was a firm favourite of dave clarke and laurent garnier who included some of his tracks on their perfectly blended mix cds (x-mix electro boogie and laboratoire mix respectively).
erik already made an appearance on de:tuned’s 5 years box set in 2014 with the track primerose and now he’s back with more previously unreleased material. the tracks on offer are all on a deeper tip, with warm yet slightly eerie and mysterious sounds, clever programming and subtle effects. proof that erik has still got it after all these years. these tracks were made during an emotional time for erik, something that is clearly reflected in the music.
once again we enlisted alan oldham for artwork duties and matt colton for mastering the source material to perfection. this ep will be available on 180 gr vinyl. a digital release will also be available from all the usual outlets. de:tuned are honoured to have worked with erik on this release, a very personal record for him. thanks erik & emiel for your confidence and support!

plexus records & meyso present m.a.j.. this is the first full length effort by french producer meyso, after a bunch of projects and collaborations including productions for lomepal, fixpen sill, equipto, sameer ahmad and more! meyso first appeared on plexus records cassette project from 2013, then on the kapla album on the same label with mr hone, maodea and oteest. hes been since producing for several french and belgian rappers and started to be the dj on tour for famous french rapper lomepal. on m.a.j., meyso confirms his skills and delivers a very rich and dense album. influenced at first by producers such as dilla, madlib and dj shadow, he develops now his own modern approach of beatmaking, incorporating elements of trap and electronic music. with guests such as caballero, jeanjass, veerus or ndobo emma, the album balances between deep instrumentals made of rare vinyl samples and some catchy rap and soulful tracks. this lp comes in a limited edition of 500 copies, all hand-numbered and pressed on 180gr, 12x12inch insert included. original art is a painting made by natosito

pavel ludin returns to poker flat wax with a gripping four-tracker showcasing his myriad of talents. born and raised in eastern siberia, pavel iudin found his way to the underground scenes of moscow and saint petersburg where he firmly established his credentials. the probe ep finds him at the height of his powers, serving up some serious burners. ‘probe 2&#8242,,,, is a throbbing, deep roller with shimmering synths and a shuffling, evolving groove - one for keeping the floor on lock whatever the situation. ‘halo’ has more classic feel to it, clearly a nod to the chicago masters of the 90s, but maintaining a tough and fresh feel that is all ludin’s own. half way though, things really open up into thick, swingy vibe via a killer bassline and snappy percussion. ‘probe 3&#8242,,,, is more acidic outing - although never resorting to the iconic 303, the track is a lysergic journey into dubbed out tech-house. closing out the ep is ‘groundlevel’ - a driving, loopy groover that uses ludin’s feel for atmosphere and tension to the max. the whole ep exudes a steely-eyed mastery of the studio and the dance floor - making pavel iudin one to watch over the next months.

there arent many artists that can lay claim to having put out records on labels as divergent as rough trade and john talabot’s hivern discs. perhaps this is because few artists express such genuine diversity in their musical tastes and creative explorations as david kitt. since the turn of the decade as new jackson he has mined a seam of driving, ghostly house to run parallel with his solo strand of ambient folk electronica. his debut release in 2011 the night mail on pogo channeled early record collection heroes aphex twin and orbital through to drexciya and projekt pm but had one foot firmly in the 21st century beaming in like some futuristic cyberballad. on the flip side hussle free had that mix of house and boogie sensibilities with dark and dusty synths and vocoder that would become a signature. this was followed by acclaimed releases on hivern, permanent vacation, major problems, apartment and most recently cin cin. his debut album set for release on all city in may was recorded in kitt’s bedroom studio overlooking dublin bay, its nocturnal hues very much a product of the nightshift often working on headphones with the rest of his housemates fast asleep. it takes full advantage of the scope of the lp format, ebbing and flowing between deep house club ready gems and more restrained and meditative beatless moments for the morning after. the recording process yielded many eureka moments with kitt finally nailing sounds that had hitherto proved elusive. a key moment was getting a bank loan to buy an sp 1200 sampler

archeo are at it again, finding yet more hidden delights from italy s bountiful musical past. paolo modugno s brise d automne originally came out in 1988 and has since been highly coveted by record collectors fascinated with the new age delights contained within. archeo have gone all out for this reissue, pressing the album on heavy vinyl to allow the music to really breathe, and adding a second disc with two tracks previously unavailable on vinyl. the curious fusion of organic and electronic elements with a daring approach to production makes for one of the most unique records you re likely to hear all year.
